I became particularly interested in submarine wrecks after reading a book called Shadow Divers, the true story of a crew of wreck divers who discovered a sunken WW2 German U-Boat off the coast of New Jersey in the 1990s. With my version of a wrecked submarine loosely based on the design of the U-Boat I created a miniature scale all steel construction to be experienced as an installation. Titled Icarus Down, the viewer walks into the space of this wreck. In its rotting interior ghost remnants of its crew can be found along the broken hull and visible through the conning tower window is a miniature scale disheveled captains quarters. Meanwhile the hum of steam engines roar.
